It's an ancient city frozen in time, magic and mystery at every corner, freezing December rain and the warm lights of a Christmas village, flowers and castles in the heart of a busy shopping centre, memorial to the king of romance the poet Robert Burns, memories of wandering alone with a heart full of love and wonder, delighted and missing someone to share it with, no city like good old Edinburgh...

A true place of learning changes you forever. Remembering the University of Edinburgh, always feel most privileged to have walked its grounds, its hallowed memorials to wisdom, its library you could spend a lifetime in, its glory and grandeur and its humility bringing the world together in seeking knowledge, above all its warmth and limitless freedom....

In the heart of Edinburgh, the world's only railway station named after a novel, Waverley by Sir Walter Scott, Scotland's great historical novelist, everything preserved as it was a century ago, ultra modern technology hasn't been allowed to tamper with the ancient spirit of the place...quotes from Walter Scott everywhere, ancient ticket vending machines, old engines of the colonial era reminding you of where Indian railways originated...a smooth, swift ride through the virgin countryside and the picture perfect cities...a train journey you will not forget.

Wandering with a hungry heart, I found food for both body and soul in the ancient, coastal, granite-mining town of Aberdeen, Scotland... A most lavish Scottish breakfast, magnificent Cathedral churches adorned for Christmas, majestic parks and squares, a perfect blue sea with a rainbow, and of course children's parks where you can age backwards...

Crossing the sea by train, you climb higher into the cold mountains of Northern Scotland...a holiday at Burn House, The Burn...never was the prize for winning a writing competition sweeter....a lovely castle in the middle of a forest, with its own river and gardens and grounds, nature tamed and wild...a house with a sad history of colonialism and slavery... finally lands in the hands of a noble family, having lost their only son to the Second World War, they donate this house to the cause of scholarship...an abode for scholars and writers: grand rooms and libraries, amazing views and delicious food, and of course natural beauty that can make anyone a poet...once experienced, never to be forgotten...

A place not to be missed... Edinburgh's National Art Gallery... art that's not only a feast for the eyes but an exercise for the mind

The weather can get freezing cold and wet, but nothing matches the grandeur of ancient University buildings, colleges and temples of learning, piping hot delicious street food, memorials to scholars, ancient mansions and modern buildings that sandwich you on all sides as you go climbing up the great hills to reach the Castle that has protected Edinburgh for centuries...what a view from the hill top!!

The vast and imposing ramparts and the view of the entire city below; some of the world's biggest mediaeval guns that protected an ancient land time and again; world war memorials and medals and martyrs; dog cemeteries for the faithful military companion animals; relics paying tribute to the Tiger of Mysore Tipu Sultan: the last great enemy of the British in India; tales of great Scottish kings and queens: Bruce to Macbeth to St Margaret to Mary to Charles, those who fought against English domination and gave their lives for their subjects; over 1000-year-old underground prisons and dungeons filled with conspiracies and power struggles until death; finally the royal palace where heirs to the throne were born, the precious royal jewels saved by the blood of ordinary citizens, and the simple stone throne calling kings and queens to travel the hard path of righteousness. Pure poetry in stone.

From ice age rocks to real animals from every corner of the earth, from the first TV to the first cloned sheep Dolly, from ancient Asian statues to the first airplanes and air balloons, the National Museum of Scotland is a tribute to this land of scholars, conquerors and inventors...

This time only three of Edinburgh's most loved objects or destinations: first, memorial to Bobby, the faithful dog who waited by its master's grave till its death; second, the national library of Scotland and third, its central library with the motto: Let there be Light. Those are God's first words in the Bible, and very apt for libraries in a land where books and knowledge are adored....
