Literature makes you restless. Your eyes are opened, and you can no longer close them or look the other way. Your senses have awakened to wrong things around you, and you can no longer find it easy to stay silent. To speak or remain silent? To be or not to be? There is no escape from this dilemma. To quote T.S. Eliot, ‘After such knowledge, what forgiveness?’ ('Gerontion').
